In 2016, Shelley Maniscalco, MPH, RDN started Nutrition On Demand (NOD), a food and nutrition affairs firm based in Washington, DC. NOD specializes in building and translating scientific evidence, navigating policy, and creating compelling communications strategies for various audiences. In the past several years, NOD has grown to include nutrition and communication professionals with the expertise necessary to provide maximum value to our client partners. Our multidisciplinary team has extensive experience in Dietary Guidelines for Americans development and implementation, food assistance programs, government relations, coalition-building, influencer partnerships, thought leadership and stakeholder engagement, research and evaluation, omnichannel marketing, food retail, school nutrition, technology, and consumer and marketplace trend analysis and application.
NOD provides strategic counsel and smart execution for our clients – professional organizations, trade associations, consumer packaged goods companies, and non-profit philanthropies. In recent years, the demand for diverse, culturally competent professionals in the health and nutrition space has increased – as has our work in this area.
Food is powerful. It is much more than a source of nutrition. It provides enjoyment, serves as a tie to cultural identities, and is a connector of people, communities, and society as a whole. We believe inclusivity is an essential ingredient to deliver high-quality programs for our clients and, ultimately, for public health.
To that end, we’re committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion at NOD and we consult with our broad consultant network to ensure our work encapsulates these important tenets. Additionally, we are devoted to bringing energy, expertise, and excellence to each of our clients’ projects, and we’ve doubled the size of our team to do just that.
Over the next few months, Fred Durso will conduct interviews with our new team members. A former journalist, Fred is now transitioning to dietetics and pursuing a master’s degree in food and nutrition. His knack for telling stories and capturing the essence of each story and individual is so clear. We hope you’ll follow along here and get to know, love, and appreciate our consultants as much as we do!
